What can you do?

Actua ante el cambio climático

Mahatma Gandhi once said: "They say I am a hero. I, who am weak, timid, almost insignificant. If I did what I did the way I am, imagine what you all can do together." He was so right. That is why we must make the choice to participate in taking care of the environment. We cannot remain idle; the benefit is so great that it is worth getting involved.

Little big gestures to care for our planet.

1.- While you brush your teeth or soap up in the shower, turn off the tap. Do not use hot water if it is not necessary, and remember that a shower is always better than a bath. And remember that a good trick for saving up to 40% on water is to place a flow restrictor or aerator in the taps.

2.- Whenever you can, walk or ride a bike. Doing exercise is one of the most enjoyable things. If you can't, the best thing to do is to take public transport and avoid the carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants.

3.- If you want your plants to be marvellous, water them with the water left over after boiling vegetables, once it has cooled, of course. You can also use the water from the aquarium or terrarium to water them. They have a lot of nutrients and you will see how well your plants grow!

4.- Do not use the toilet as a wastepaper bin. Recycling and reusing paper is a gesture that can save lives. The toilet should also have a water saving system. If you do not have one, make it yourself by placing a bottle filled with water in the tank.

5.- Whenever you use plastic cups, plates and containers or cans, remember! Do not toss them in the rubbish bin; dispose of them in their corresponding recycling bin.

6.- If it's very hot, close the blinds and open the windows at night to cool the house. If it's very cold, insulate the house and close the blinds at night to keep the heat from escaping. Keep in mind that if you open the windows for 10 minutes in the morning, your house will be well ventilated and you will save energy.

7.- Batteries contaminate a lot. That's why you should use as few as possible, and try always to use rechargeable ones. And don't forget to take them to the collection point once they are spent.

8.- Use natural light whenever you can. Switch off the lights when you leave the room and choose low-consumption light bulbs: they use 80% less energy and last 8 times longer. To save for the good of everyone, do not leave your electrical devices on standby, since they continue to consume energy in that mode.

9.- Whenever you can, avoid making unnecessary noise, especially in natural surroundings. Pollution can also be acoustic. Always try to ensure that your visits to natural areas leave as little a trace as possible. Collect any rubbish you produce, do not make fires and do not pick plants and flowers so that those who come after can also enjoy them.

10.- Try to open the oven, the fridge and the freezer as little as possible and for as short a time as possible. And remember, it is best to use the washing machine and the dishwasher only when they are full.
